Summer travel season is just around the bend! With arrival of the warm weather months lots of us get ready to hit the beach, head for the mountains, or whatever summer vacation means to you. If you have a dog or cat it’s often not possible to bring them along for the ride. If you’ll be boarding your pet with us this summer here a few things you can do ahead of time to help them have smoother sailing while you’re gone.

Swing by for a visit – ┬áIf you’re dog or cat has already stayed at Woodlands, you can just skip this step. But if you’re new to the Woodlands family, bringing your pet by for a visit will help them become familiar with the place before coming for a longer stay. Whether it’s a just stopping by for a tour or a few days of our doggie daycare service, getting them used to the resort can be very helpful.

Send them with comfort items – Just as is true with us, when dogs are in a less familiar place, having things that remind them of home is comforting. Send along a favorite chew toy and a bag of treats they really enjoy. We’ll make sure to give them plenty of treats and playtime while you’re gone.

Start packing after you’ve dropped them off – If possible, drop your dog off the night before you’re set to leave. Saavy dogs can figure out that packing means you leaving. If you pack up after they’re gone it may help reduce their pre-vacation anxiety level.

Book early – If you’re planning a trip for the summer months where you’re going to be boarding your cat or dog, book early. Summer is one of our most popular times, so last-minute availability is often in short supply. Book your dates early to make sure we’re saving a spot for you!
