Dog-friendly Day Trip To The Carl Sandburg Home

Now that spring has officially sprung, it’s time to get outside before that summer sun chases you back indoors. If you’re itching for a fun trip to the mountains outside of Greenville with your pup we have a trip for you! About 45 minutes from downtown Greenville lies the Carl Sandburg home right outside of Flat Rock, NC.

Carl Sandburg was a famous American poet whose home and 245 acre estate is now managed by the US Park Service. Admission to the home is $10 for an interesting and informative tour. But access to the 5 miles or so of trails that surround the house is free.

Trails of varying intensity leave from the right hand side of the home. A helpful trail map guides you to find a trail that fits what you and your dog are after. From a heart-pumping walk to the top of Glassy Mountain for a scenic view out into the valley below to a leisurely wander through the woods, there’s a trail there for you!

So lace on your hiking boots, grab the leash, and pile you and your pup into the car for a fun day out just minutes from Greenville!
